Relationship Strategies vs. Discipline Strategies

So the first decision I had to make was, would I invest my time and energy in learning and implementing Relationship Strategies or Discipline Strategies.

I decided to invest in Relationship Strategies that would help create and maintain respectful, supportive and enjoyable family life AND get my family out of the door in the morning on time with no tears. I was not about to waste my time on the latest, quick fix, gimmick discipline strategies that would add more stress, anxiety, and fighting to the family mix.

The truth is there aren’t a lot of books on the market for parents on how to develop a strong, respectful, open and honest relationship with their kids. But the key to NOT fighting with people is developing a great relationship with them.

Most books are either about

  • Showing our kids unconditional love
  • Spending quality time together as a family
  • Reading to them in the evening and stimulating intellectual prowess

And we all know that to develop and maintain a great relationship takes more than reading and snuggling.

Or, the books are on

  • How to deal with naughty kids
  • How to get your kids to help around the house
  • How to control your kid, so your life is easier (okay, that isn’t a real title, but you get what I am saying here).

Truthfully, I am just too lazy and not all that interested in spending my time learning a discipline strategy that changes with new research or when my child suddenly enters a new “phase”. This seemed like too much trouble and not what I was looking for in terms of parenting.

By ruling out the “flowery” or the “military” approach to parenting, it left me free to develop and refine relationship strategies that would guarantee that every minute of every day with my kids was dedicated to investing in an awesome relationship with these growing, interesting, exciting individuals.

The Parenting On Track™ program teaches parents how to infuse their homes and lives with relationship strategies that are fun, engaging, powerful and work to create cooperative, friendly, relaxed, respectful relationships with their kids that will weather every storm and every phase of our kids lives (including the teen years).
